Nursing degrees from the University of Southampton are the first in the country to be officially recognised and accredited by the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC).,The nursing degree curriculum at Southampton received high praise for several attributes, in particular the ‘values-based model,’ in which sensitive care and intelligent comparison are central to the course programme.,Successful graduates from the bachelor of nursing (BN) degree course will be entitled to register to practice with the NMC in their chosen field.,These undergraduate nursing degree nursing degree courses from the University of Southampton give students the choice between pursuing a single field course over three years, and a dual field course over four years.,The single field nursing degree can be undertaken in the child, adult or mental health fields. Alternatively, the dual field nursing degree can be undertaken in the adult and mental health, or adult and child fields.,Jessica Corner, who is Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Southampton, called the move towards all-degree courses ‘historic’ for nursing, adding that she was proud that her institution of higher education had been the first to have its BN nursing degree courses approved by the NMC.,Professor Corner wrote in Nursing Times in April 2011: I was proud to announce that the University of Southampton was the first to have its degree programmes approved by the Nursing and Midwifery Council. We will become “all graduate” from September (2011), two years ahead of the deadline. We were closely followed by York and all other universities will soon follow suit.,”This is a historic moment and one that we should rightly mark with celebration.
